If an appointment is checked-in to a worklist the task is linked to the appointment and the appointment should reflect status changes in the task.

This seems to work for status changes such as Pending -> In progress initiated by the consult workflow as well as In progress -> Completed but the Check_Out workflow, but the appointment status is not updated when the invoice status is changed to completed which changes the task status to billed but not the linked appointment status.
